The primary duties of this position are to inspect buildings and structures in the process of construction, alteration or repair for compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans and specifications and other regulations and ordinances related to public health, safety and welfare. Under the supervision of the Building Official, the position performs inspections and/or plan reviews for all types of building and structures for compliances with State Building Codes as well as local rules and regulations. The position meets with developers, designers, contractors and owners to help identify and resolve issues.

Other duties include: examining building plans for compliance with applicable state and local codes, including codes for residential and commercial structures. This position will also perform plan review of residential buildings in the process of construction, alteration, or repair for compliance with all applicable codes.

$19.58 - $28.55 per hour DOE

High school diploma or GED equivalent plus possession of the following Oregon certifications or the International

Code Council Certifications:

Preferred qualifications - must have one or more of the following certification or be able to obtain one or more of the following certifications:
• State of Oregon A-Level Plans Examiner or ICC Commercial Plans Examiner
• A-Level Oregon Mechanical Inspector
• Fire/Life Safety Plans Examiner
• A-Level Oregon Structural Inspector
• Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC)
• and any combination of two (2) years of formal education and/or experience in architecture, structural engineering, building design, inspections, construction and/or plan review providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
